Do I believe the German scale?

Guten Morgen, meine Freundin.

Well, I've been thinking about Dawnya's post on restriction and Ronnie's comment that I am just suppose to eat less (as in, the band won't stop me from eating) but I just keep thinking that I am eating (am able to eat) too much !  For example, the other day, I ate a baguette sandwich with some kind of spread, mozzarella cheese pieces and small tomatoes.  I ate the whole thing.  Slowly. Small bites.  Chewed it to death.  Set the baguette down. Watched the clock.  Asked myself if I was still hungry. Do you see where I'm going here? And I ate the entire thing. Oh, I wish I had taken a photo.

I will be doing the reset of good habits when I return home (which I am not thinking about).  You know: lots of water, dense protein, weighing food, etc.  NOT bread at every meal (which has been delish, bytheway).

C'est la vie.

While I have been averaging over 11,000 steps according to Body Media FIT (my pedometer has registered more), I simply have not felt any smaller.  I'll use a phrase from Deb (http://provokingpracticality.blogspot.com/), or rather from her Doorman: I feel thick.

If I believe the scale here in Deutschland, I'm down 3.5 lbs. This is over the past two weeks - forgot to weigh in last Thr - too busy trying to get on a plane for a total of 41.1 lbs since pre-op diet (began on 7/7).  If my sister's scale is right - I'll take it :)

Whine/wine over.

No, I did not buy this wine.  Bought the full calorie ~ full flavored wine and just assumed that I walked off the calories.

  1. I am with you..full caloried/full flavor wine is the only way to go!!

It took me a really REALLY long time to feel smaller and most of the time I still don't feetl smaller!

But one day, all of the sudden, you will see it!

  2. If you eat slowly enough you can get ANYTHING down, girlfriend. This I promise you. Also, you don't want to eliminate anything from your diet or you'll feel deprived and be more prone to binging (like eating a whole baguette?). Haha, ya know I love ya... don't hate me. O:)

Also, believe the scale! That scale is your friend. As much exercise as you've been getting I bet that's even a low estimate. :)

  4. You feel exactly like I do Cece! I think it's going to take awhile for us to "master" the band. The past week I feel like I can eat quite a bit, BUT it's certainly not as much as I've been able to eat pre-band. We'll get this!
As far as feeling smaller.......neither do I. It will all come with time. We have to be patient, so they say.

  5. Ronnie is right. You can eat anything slowly, I know I can. It is so hard to push away that food. We have all taught ourselves to clean our plates. I recently have really slowed down and listened to my body.

And German scales are probably VERY accurate. Probably more so than our crappy made in China ones! :)

  7. You probably burned off most of those calories with all the walking you've been doing! I've never seen WW wine before!

  8. I hope you're having the time of your life!! And yes, by all means - believe the scale!! Congrats to YOU for having a loss!!!

And I wouldn't touch WW Wine for love or money - sounds kinda creepy!! Give me the old fashioned, calorie laden, and lovely tasting German wines any day!!

  9. I also agree with Ronnie...you can eat anything if you take enough time to do it and I also agree with her that it isn't good to deprive yourself of something if you really want it because that always comes back to bite you in the ass! The trick is to be a good girl and follow the rules most of the time so that when you do have something not so good that you don't completely screw everything up!

As far as the scale goes, just stay off of it until you get home. It's hard to compare your weight on different scales and you're on vacations for goodness sake! You're doing a lot of walking so just enjoy yourself and worry about the rest when you get home!!

  10. OK..I am going to be the voice of la difference. I cannot eat anything if I let it sit. I can stash it and come back but I cannot eat a sandwich (especially a baguette surrounded one) and finish it off in one sitting (I suppose unless that sitting were four hours!!).

I wear my band tight so be warned but I have always judged my restriction or green zone or whatever you want to call it...with a half a sandwich. If I can eat just 1/2 then I am about right with the restriction. Now there are times when I can go a bite or two above and others when I can only get part of the 1/2 down (depending on the month)..but on average 1/2 is the marker.

Everyone is different but if...you feel like you are eating too much AND you re not losing then I would think about a fill when I got home. Of course if you can eat a baguette sandwich and still lose weight..screw the fill and roll with it :)

    xxxooo
