November 20 - Thankful For: The Kindness of Strangers

.

Twice yesterday, a stranger made me feel good. Once, at a stop light. The woman next to me and I made eye contact and we both smiled at each other. The second time was at the nail salon. I was at the sink washing my hands as was a 20-something woman. When she was done, she said: Have a nice Thanksgiving.

Two simple acts.  A smile and a comment.

This also made me recall how you never know how you are affecting someone - both positively or negatively.  The last time I was at a funeral home people were raving about the woman who had died.  I kept thinking - did they tell her this when she was alive.  I try to live in the moment and tell people when they've said or done something that positively affects me, made me feel good.  Made me think about something differently.

You never know ...

  1. Love this - it can really make a difference in someone's day - I try to practice it frequently. Thank you for the comment you made on my most recent post, dearest - you are indeed right. Sometimes the frustration is just overwhelming. Or the overwhelm is just overwhelming...who knows. Big hugs to you...xo

  2. Thanks alot for letting me know. I'm sorry I never got your email :-( Hopefully who ever set it up last time will set it up again. I think it's a wonderful idea. . I did have a wonderful time watching my parents fur-children. I always try to smile at people when I make eye contact. Glad that your day got better.

  3. A good reminder :) Especially this time of year-- when we're supposed to be thankful (and gracious) and sometimes are instead cranky and rushed. Thank you!

  4. What an important reminder! This struck me yesterday actually. My mom had left me a voicemail while I was at lunch telling me about a couple recipes I might like to try that was in the Sunday paper. I told my hubby and he said "Wow. She loves you so much." And I was like, "Yeah she does." Simple but made such a difference in that moment.

  5. This is so true. You never know how the little things may impact someone. It's important to be nice to others...and to ourselves :)
